NAME: Basch fon Ronsenburg
CANON: Final Fantasy XII
AGE: 36
CANON POINT: Epilogue, pre-Revenant Wings
BACKGROUND: The Canon | Basch
INCENTIVE: Basch's incentive is the life of his brother, Noah (known more often as Gabranth). Despite everything that happened between them (including Gabranth impersonating Basch, killing a king and painting him a kingslayer, and imprisoning/torturing him for years) Basch cared deeply for his twin and did not wish him ill. He sat with Gabranth as he died and promised him to take over his charge, watching over Lord Larsa, even going so far as to adopt Gabranth's identity afterward. While Basch's duty means everything to him, it's just that--duty. He's not going to entrust Larsa's future safety, another possible incentive, to some unknown element like the Eudio officials. Either he or Gabranth will be the one to protect the new emperor of Archadia. However... that doesn't mean Basch is going to let this opportunity pass him by. Not if he can get Noah back and give him another chance at life, at redemption.
FIT: Honor means everything to Basch, more than his own life. He's the kind of person who would ask someone's permission to do the slightest of things, let alone the big issues of consent like using powers/having ~relations~. He would and has protected others without regard for himself. Consent is not an issue at all.
SAMPLES:
The Judge Magister's brow furrowed at the missive in his hand. The messenger had brought it straight to him but that was nothing out of the ordinary. Lowly messengers did not hand things to the emperor of Archadia directly, not without the emperor's specific consent. Not that Larsa himself was terribly hung up on such things, young and progressive as he was, but there were certain protocols to maintain and Larsa was nothing if not a consummate politician, even at such a tender age. Basch--Gabranth, as he was known these days--often took such messages on his lord's behalf.
Only this one, a small, plain cream-colored envelope, was from no one he recognized. It bore a seal he'd never seen and the name of a city of which he had no knowledge. It was addressed to Judge Magister Gabranth, which allayed some of his initial fears, though the contents of the envelope stopped his heart cold.
The name on the envelope was Judge Magister Gabranth, but the letter within was addressed to Basch fon Ronsenburg of Dalmasca.
Someone had found him out. There were but a small handful of people still alive who knew his true identity and Basch suspected none of them, which meant he must have been indiscreet somehow. Something had gone wrong. The rest of the letter did nothing to ease those fears. An offer, yes, but a vague offer of his heart's desire in return for his assistance. Was that not meant to be sinister? He'd been dealing with power struggles and court intrigues for far too long to not at least suspect the sender of something foul.
A meeting, this evening. Basch frowned, the scar on his brow making the simple expression far more intimidating than it might have otherwise been, and then shook his head. He would give this 'representative' a chance, but he would expect nothing.
The representative was a woman, perhaps Basch's own age and unremarkable--or she would have been unremarkable were it not for the strange clothing she wore: a tight skirt, knee-length, under a jacket of the same material. Very dour. Very foreign. Basch himself attended not as Basch but as the Judge Magister, armed and armored as such, for though this woman may have known his true identity, no one else in Archades did. He could ill afford more indiscretions if his true name had made it to this woman already.
Her smile was kind, despite his reservations. "Judge Magister," she said warmly, savvy enough to use his assumed identity while in public. "Please, have a seat."
"I thank you, but I prefer to stand," Basch said stiffly. It was not like him to be so ill at ease, but until he knew the measure of this woman, of how she had come by such knowledge.... "I would hear what you have to say. Is that not enough?"
The representative sighed, smiling. "Very well. Let me tell you about Eudio, Judge Magister."
It was, quite frankly, ridiculous. His heart's desire, did he even know what that was? And all for what... holding hands? Being close with people he didn't know? He hadn't been close to anyone since before Rasler's death, since before the dungeon and the cage. Even then there had been only brief moments of intimacy, arrangements of convenience to pass the dark hours when he laid down sword and shield. Why would he stoop to prostituting himself for something he couldn't even--
"Your brother, Judge Magister."
Basch's head snapped up, his eyes narrowing.
"We have it in our power to return him to you. Alive, whole and healthy. If you come with me and agree to help us for a time."
"...you have my attention."
ANYTHING ELSE?
Basch is a knight by profession, and as such his abilities are largely to do with the military and fighting. He is extremely strong and a skilled swordsman, and we see in one of the game's FMVs that he's also an incredibly skillful bowman. He also has a very high endurance, wearing full plate armor with ease and being able to withstand some severe damage.
While he is only of average magickal prowess, he is capable of performing several low to mid-level magick spells (for rp purposes, I'd say probably a couple of weak attack spells such as Fire and Thunder, and a handful of low level restorative/buff spells such as Cure [healing], Esuna [removing poison/status effects], and Protect [magickal shielding]).
He'll be carrying with him a full set of Judicer's plate armor, the sword Tournesol, and a decent bit of coin (nothing extravagant).
